CONTEST IS OPEN TO EVERYONE- One NON cloth user and One Cloth user will be picked!
There is my "stash" as we cloth diaper users call it. Not too fancy, not too complicated but HIGHLY functional and HIGHLY cost effective.
I did not cloth from the start with this baby and I did not cloth with my first, do I regret it YES!
See with my first daughter 5 years ago, I searched the Internet and all I found was a bunch of fancy 20 something dollar diapers. Sure they would eventually pay for themselves and save me money but the upfront cost was too much!
These were my usual responses... (this is honestly what I used to say)
*It's too much initial investment, I don't have the money
*It looks too complicated
*I already have enough laundry
*It's going to stink up the house
*My husband wont want to change diapers
*It's gross
*I don't want to be a martyr mom <---Yeah I used to call cloth diaper users Martyr moms lol.. What changed? well.. the diapers changed! and my money situation changed I did not want to worry about having enough money for a pack of diapers, because at one point I didn't, a dear friend had to buy me 2 packs of diapers and wipes, those were the last disposables I used. People over at Bumgenious <---I'm like one of their biggest cheerleaders, and nope they don't know I even exist lol.... so obviously they're not sponsoring this, it's just my views. They made these great pocket friendly diapers called Flip and econobum I started with one stay dry pack in the summer with 50 dollars I scrunched up and I would hand wash them everyday and hang them to dry outside, you can read about it on a review I did about flip diapers on my personal blog. I hand washed because it was hot outside and I didn't want to keep running the washer everyday, so I took advantage of the sun. Back then her poopie was the breast milk poop and It wasn't too bad, my own child's poop isn't as gross as I thought.
I eventually got 5 additional inserts and 2 covers as well and 2 econobum inserts and 3 prefolds. I wash them every other day, and I just put them in a bag in the garage.
Runny poop goes directly in the wash I don't even fuss with it
Sticky poop I just grab some toilet paper and wipe the excess off into the toilet
Hard poo is the easiest, just dump in the toilet!
IN NONE of those situations do you EVER touch poop! the sticky poo is the most difficult but think of it as wiping your toddler's booty lol...
Laundry really just became routine and I am happy to report my Hubby DOES change cloth! I did it for the first week so he would see and then he was all for it! plus he was all for the savings!
Total cost! $100 I started 5 months ago almost 6!, so lets see I was buying a jumbo pack a week $10 x 24 weeks, they payed for themselves AND saved me 140 dollars so far, not to mention I got at least 1-2 more diapering years on this baby... and a possible future baby who already has diapers! haha.
WITH THAT SAID
We want to give back, to the environment and help some of you make the switch! If all you need is a little push this might be it! we're going to give away 2 Econobum Starter packs to 2 winners!! , it's one cover three prefolds, that is like having 3 diapers! ReplyDeleteOk, I'm due in April and I've decided I'm doing the cloth diapering bit. I did it with my daughter but that was over 10 years ago and my how things have changed! So, I cannot wait to start saving money and helping the environment! Thanks for the opportunity with this contest. Between_Georgia@yahoo.com
ReplyDeletemine are all done, but just want to say You Rock for helping other moms begin cloth diapering!! we loved doing it!
ReplyDelete=) here I go. First confession, we USE TO use cloth, I had preemie ones specially made and some S/M ones. When my boys outgrew them I joined a cloth diaper exchange and found someone to donate my stash to. The way it was suppose to work was you donated your stash of unneeded ones and you would be match with a donor for the new size you required. I thought this was an awesome way to go because I know I struggled to get my first stash. Sad part is the group owner took down the group and I was never matched, I gave a way a stash I could have sold to be able to buy my new stash and just couldn't afford to start from scratch again. So we are back to diapers! Our youngest boy will HOPEULLY be potty trained by this summer and will be out of diapers, but my middle son is disabled and can not be potty trained (he can't feel when he needs to go). He is very tiny (size 3 diapers) and would still fit cloth diapers which we are hoping to switch to again, he just started JK and we think it would be far better to be in school in cloth than regular diapers (and thankfully his school prefers this). We just haven't been able to find the money to make the switch back, we live on a tight budget due to his medical costs and finding "extras" is hard. It would be so much easier to have a few cloth to cut down on the amount of regular diapers, the savings by cutting down would allow us to stash away some money to be able to up our collection. We absolutely LOVED cloth when we had them, the boys had almost no rashes, and if sick we just had to run a few more loads but didn't have to worry about running out during the night and having to make a mad dash for the store. Our son will also be in diapers for a lot longer than most children so it would save us a LOT of money in the long run.

Kira up there sent me here! I have a love hate relationship with cloth diapering. Mainly because my daughter poops 4 times a day most of the time. Otherwise I love cloth diapering and knowing I always have diapers no matter what.
ReplyDeletejordanandabby@yahoo.com
Got the google thing figured out (thanks for the help!) I am a mother to 3, my newest little girls is 4 months- I wanted to begin with cloth diapers and hubby wasn't sure, so we didn't. After realizing all of the chemicals that are on our little girls skin with regular diapers, hubby approached me about switching over. We have never done this, so a starter pack would be an awesome way to get started
ReplyDeletewith our CD adventrue :-)
<3 Stephanie
I also liked you guys on fb (that's where I got the help to figure out the google thing!)-- do I need a sperate comment for that?
I would LOVE to try cloth. I registered for cloth before I had my son. Everyone brought huggies to my baby shower. I was not happy. We did not have money for the initial cost. Every time we run out of diapers I want to buy cloth sooo bad. I am a stay at home mom so my husband is in control of the money. He thinks its too expensive. I tell him it will save us money in the long run. I am also for saving the environment. It makes me cringe to think how many diapers I've thrown in the waste. My son is in diapers and we are planning for more. Hopefully our next kids at leasat will be in cloth!

well, I have a couple of friends who have highly recommended it to me, I had the same reason to not to as most...it seems like a lot to start out. But I have spent that same amount buying in bulk a time or two. The other reason was that I was just used to what I was doing and fear of the unknown was preventing me from taking the bull by the horns. Well, now that I am pregnant with babies number four AND five, I am really thinking about how much money will be saved! and how many stinky disposable diapers won't be piling up if I use CDs!
ReplyDeleteSo, it would be wicked awesome to win these, and if I don't I am going to make the change anyhow!

I had toyed around with cloth diapering in the past and while it was not a lot of extra work I just couldnt commit to it.
ReplyDeleteNow I am in a situation where I have newborn twins, a 2 year old that has totally potty regressed on me, and an autistic 4 year old still in diapers. So that is FOUR kids in diapers. We use cloth for what feels like a million reasons but the leading reason has got to be we just cant afford not to! lol

ReplyDeletei JUST started CD (meaning I have about 4... lol) - I always felt like it was some kind of cult that i never got an invite to, and felt .. i dunno.. lonely? to try to start it.. then i saw Charlie Bananas on a discount site and they were SO cute and my friend cloth diapers and my husband knew i was curious, so he bought me 2 of them saying i should just try it at night and see how we feel. well my daughter wouldn't go back to sposies at night! she LOVED them.. and she cracked up and "pranced" (if a 6 month old could prance..) around in them. my husband loved it, i loved it, so we agreed to start collecting more, but only at a decent price. he's out of work now (just finished in the Navy) and so we fel like at least we have the few we have so we don't have to worry about buying diapers if money starts getting tight!

ReplyDeleteWhen I was pregnant with my first I was on the CD bandwagon. I was so excited and pumped to get started. Slowly I was discouraged by what I would have considered some of the bravest parents who a lot of ppl would have considered crunchy. little by little I was more discouraged and eventually donated my cloth diaper bundle to the food bank. I have had every thought you put on your list time and time again. I feel a tinge of guilt knowing I will be getting an "exception" on garbage day because I have two lo's in diapers so everyone gets one bag and I get two bags per week. I am ready to make the switch... I think lol I've never actually tried so push away!! c:
